We all know that drinking water is good for the body but we rarely drink enough of it. ‘Plenty’ is a very subjective word: 1 litre can be much for some, but little for other.
To keep hydrated, especially in a city like Saigon, where temperature never goes below 20 Celsius, it is essential to drink a lot, but how much? I would suggest about 1 gallon a day, that mean about 4 litres of drinking water; this does not include sodas, teas and coffees (they are actually dehydrating for the body).
I know what you are thinking! How in the hell am I going to drink this much water? My suggestion is to divide it into 4 parts, 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon, making sure to finish about 6 pm to avoid interfering with your sleep.
The best moments to drink water are 30 minutes before each meal (preferred) and 30 minutes after them. In this case, an ideal schedule would look like this:
Wake up and Drink: 500 ml water
Breakfast followed by 500 ml water
Lunch followed by 500 ml water
Pre-afternoon snack: Drink 500 ml water
Afternoon snack followed by 500 ml water
Pre-dinner: Drink 500 ml water
Dinner followed by 500 ml water
